Advisory Boards That Produce Strategy, Not Minutes

Most advisory boards fail quietly. Experts fly in, sit through slides, offer polite observations, and the insights die in a transcript nobody operationalises. In therapy areas where expert time is the scarcest resource in medicine, that failure is expensive.

The fix is to treat the advisory board as a scientific instrument. Advisors should receive rigorous pre-read dossiers so meeting time is spent debating, not downloading. Discussion guides should be built around the brand's genuine strategic questions evidence gaps, sequencing dilemmas, positioning tensions and trained facilitation should keep the room in structured argument rather than serial monologue.

The real insight almost always lives in disagreement. Formats designed to surface it question hierarchies, breakouts, moderated challenge consistently outperform the show-and-tell agenda.

What happens afterwards decides whether the exercise was worth it. Synthesis into decision-ready outputs insight maps, evidence-gap analyses, clear implications for the medical and brand plan is what turns an expensive meeting into strategy. And advisors who feel their thinking was used, not harvested, become long-term scientific partners to the brand.
